The Vessel
Tandemeer is a 1980 Nautical Development 56′ heavy displacement ketch, designed by Rick Stevens, built in 1980 in Florida as a big, comfortable stable ocean going cruiser. Originally named Anenome, Tandemeer was used as the yacht for the final scenes at the end of the 1981 hit movie Trading Places starring Dan Akroyd, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Lee Curtis. In 1982 she was purchased by Frank Piasecki and renamed “Tandemeer” Frank Piasecki is renowned in aviation history as the inventor of the Tandem helicopter, with two rotors, for heavy lifting and ease of stability control (thus the name Tandem – meer). In 2017 Tandemeer was purchased and a new engine installed, and is now being used for daysail and term charters, boat stays and recreational sailing voyages.
