Missions

One of the primary missions of Tandemeer is delivering humanitarian aid to coastal villages and islands in the Caribbean severely impacted by hurricanes, earthquakes, poverty or other natural disasters and human caused impacts. Captain Sequoia Sun has been sailing to Haiti once or twice each year since the January 2010 earthquake in Port au Prince, Haiti, delivering large cargoes of food, medical supplies, solar panels, computers, school and art supplies, and sails for the local subsistence fishing fleets of hand made wooden sailboats. Sun was a captain for Greenpeace in 2006, then Executive Director of OceansWatch NA from 2008 to 2010 (conducting reef survey work in Belize and coordinating the boat lift to Haiti in January to March 2010), then a Captain for International Rescue Group from 2014 to mid 2017.

In the Fall of 2017 Captain Sequoia founded sailaidinternational.org   an organization for anyone who wishes to lend a hand to isolated coastal villages and island communities where the small amount of aid and relief supplies we can deliver by sailboat will make a very large difference in the lives of the people we reach. We cannot reach everyone, but for the people we do reach, even a modest gift, act of generosity or helping hand can make a significant impact on their lives. 2020 will be Captain Sun’s 12th sailing trip to Haiti delivering much needed aid since 2010.
